Beautiful Sunday concerts for February

Beautiful Sunday, the enduring public outreach series dedicated to entertaining and educating local audiences on classical music, will return to Shenzhen Concert Hall after the Chinese New Year holiday break.
 
Tour de piano
This Sunday afternoon, Yuan Fang, an accomplished concert pianist and professor at the School of Music, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, will lead a lecture-concert accompanied by her talented students. They will take the audience on a journey through the works of Beethoven, advancing to compositions by Schubert, Brahms, Chopin, and Liszt.

The session will blend insightful lectures on the styles and development of these composers with vibrant live performances of their iconic pieces. Attendees can immerse themselves in a fulfilling experience of classical music appreciation intertwined with music knowledge acquiring. Admission is free, but tickets are required.

Organ and erhu concert

On the afternoon of Feb. 23, Hong Kong-based organists Chiu Siu-ling and Eric Fan will join forces with Erhu (a two-stringed Chinese instrument) virtuoso Shu Xi to present a diverse repertoire. The audience can anticipate fresh interpretations of Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Waltz No. 2,” Rimsky-Korsakov’s exhilarating “Flight of the Bumblebee,” as well as Chinese folk melodies like “Horse-racing” and “A Farewell at Yangguan Pass.”
Chiu holds a doctorate in organ performance and choral conducting from the American Conservatory of Music; Fan received training at the Eastman School of Music and the American Organ Institute, University of Oklahoma; while Shu, a master’s graduate from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, currently serves as an associate professor at Shenzhen Arts School.
