Conductor: Chen Xieyang
Renowned conductor Chen Xieyang graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and initially served as the resident conductor for the Shanghai Ballet Orchestra. In 1982, he was invited to conduct the festival orchestra at the Aspen Music Festival in the United States, where he achieved great success. In 1984, Chen was appointed as the president of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and in 1986, he became its music director, marking the first time in Chinese cultural history that a performing arts group appointed an artistic director.
Since 1985, Chen has conducted numerous concerts with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and other renowned orchestras across the globe, including in the Soviet Union, Japan, Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, South Korea, North Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Germany, Denmark, Austria, France, Spain, Russia, and the regions of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. His performances have been highly acclaimed.
Chen's recording of the violin concerto "The Butterfly Lovers" won the Gold Record Award from the China Record Corporation in 1989 and the Special Award from the Sixth China Gold Record Awards Committee (Conducting) in 2008. Since 1987, he has been listed in the "Who's Who in the World" published by the International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, England. In 2002, the Shanghai Music Publishing House released a series of CDs titled "Symphonies by Zhu Jianer," conducted by Chen. In 2006, they published "Orchestral Works by Zhu Jianer" and "Orchestral Works by Lü Qiming," followed by a complete collection of Beethoven symphonies in 2015.
Chen Xieyang is currently the Honorary Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, Guest Conductor of the China National Symphony Orchestra, Guest Conductor of the China National Traditional Orchestra, a member of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a National Class One Conductor, and President of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Enthusiasts Association.

 

Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO)
The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO), established in 1982 amidst the wave of China's reform and opening up, has grown significantly over the past 40 years. Guided by the principle of "pursuing excellence, serving the public, and driving both performance and creation," the SZSO has become a prominent force in the music industry, recognized as one of China's finest professional orchestras. The current music director is the renowned conductor Lin Daye.
