Daniel Ottensamer

Daniel Ottensamer (born July 26, 1986 in Vienna ) is an Austrian clarinetist .He graduated with honors from Johann Hindler at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . Since 2006, Daniel Ottensamer has worked as a clarinetist in the orchestra of the Vienna Philharmonic and in the Vienna State Opera . Since 2009 he is solo clarinetist. Ottensamer was a laureate of the "Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition" in Denmark in 2009, together with Philipp Grzondziel winner of the International Clarinet Competition of the "Animato Foundation" in Zurich 2006, winner of the International Large Prize Competition for clarinet of the Concert Society Munich 2005, and winner of the "Musica Juventutis "Competition in Vienna 2004.

 

As a soloist he is regularly invited to perform with renowned orchestras, among them the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Gustavo Dudamel, Andris Nelsons, Adam Fischer,etc. He also devotes himself to chamber music . The clarinet trio "The Clarinotts", which was founded together with his father Ernst Ottensamer (solo clarinettist of the Vienna Philharmonic) and his brother Andreas Ottensamer (solo clarinettist of the Berliner Philharmoniker ), set itself the goal of bringing literature closer to the audience for this cast.

 

Daniel Ottensamer recorded his Debut CD with SONY-Classical playing the Clarinet-Concerto of W.A. Mozart. In 2016 the "Deutsche Grammophon" released the Debut-CD of "the clarinotts". A recording of the J.Brahms and CM.v. Weber clarinet sonatas was published at "Classic Concert Records". In 2015, his debut CD was released by SONY-Classical with a recording of WA Mozart’s clarinet concerto with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. His chamber music partners include such musicians as Angelika Kirchschlager, Barbara Bonney, Thomas Hampson, Bobby McFerrin, Julian Rachlin, Mischa Maisky, etc. 

 

Andreas Ottensamer

Andreas Ottensamer, born in Vienna in 1989, comes from an Austro-Hungarian family of musicians. He received his first piano lessons when he was four, at the age of ten he began studying cello in his home town at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, then changed to the clarinet under Johann Hindler in 2003. Andreas Ottensamer gained his first orchestral experience as a deputy in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic and as a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. In 2009 he interrupted his Harvard studies to become a scholar of the Orchestra Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

 

From July 2010 to February 2011 he was principal clarinettist with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Since March 2011 he is the principal clarinettist with the Berliner Philharmoniker. Ottensamer has won first prize in competitions for clarinet, cello and piano, and performs as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the world. His artistic partnerships include work with Murray Perahia, Leif Ove Andsnes, JoséGallardo, Leonidas Kavakos, Janine Jansen and Yo-Yo Ma. In 2005 Andreas Ottensamer founded the clarinet trio The Clarinotts with his father Ernst and brother Daniel, both solo clarinettists in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic. Several works have been dedicated to the ensemble.

 

In February 2013 Andreas Ottensamer entered an exclusive recording partnership with Deutsche Grammophon. His first album with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin has been released in June 2013.
